former SDRC President passes away - Zumwalt

ZUMWALT, WILLIAM J.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and passed away February 19, 2007 in Los Angeles. Beloved husband of Barbara J. Zumwalt and father of Betsy, Victoria, Anne and James. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Liz, Anne, Genevieve, Margaret, Liam and Alexandra and his sisters Betty and her husband Eddie Horne of Concord, Massachusetts, Alice and her husband Richard Finan of St. Petersburg, Florida, Nina and her husband Kendall Clark of Wareham, Massachusetts, and Mary Ann of Orlando, Florida. Bill received his B.A. degree from Boston University and his LL.B., J.D. degree from Boston College Law School. He went to Harvard Law School as a PostGraduate Student in Insurance, Equity, and Admiralty Law. Bill's career in California began as a Trial Attorney with the United States Department of Justice, Admiralty and Shipping Section, San Francisco. He served as Harbor District Attorney for the Oceanside Small-Craft Harbor District, and Assistant Port Attorney for the San Diego Unified Port District. He specialized in trial and appellate law in the Federal Systems, administrative and immigration law and was an Instructor in Law, California Western School of Law. In 1983 he and his wife moved to Encino, California where he was in private practice until his retirement due to ill health. Bill was a member of the Harvard Club of Southern California and a pastmember of the North Hollywood Rotary Club. President of the San Diego Rowing Club in 1977, he was instrumental, working with SOHO in San Diego, in having the Rowing Club designated as an historical site. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Bill's life will be held in the 1000 block of Sunset Cliffs Boulevard, San Diego on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at 11 AM with the Rev. Dr. Minoru Fukuda presiding.
